Exorcising Responsibility

Father Gabriele speaks freely about the lack of faith among the highest echelons of the Catholic Church, calling out some Cardinals (though none by name) as having no faith in Jesus Christ. “The Devil lives in the Vatican. Naturally it’s difficult to find proof but the true consequences are visible,” says the Pope’s personal spiritual hitman. He also blames the attempt on John Paul II’s life on the Devil, not to mention the Christmas attack on Pope Benedict, and believes the Harry Potter book series is secretly converting children to witchcraft.

There has been a universal cry that the Roman Catholic Church find a responsible way to deal with the rampant abuse in the ranks of the clergy. So what is the only policy we’ve heard on this matter? So far it is Father Gabriele’s admonishment that the Devil is secretly responsible for everything. Way to pass the buck, Father. Don’t lay blame on the distinctly evil people – men and women who perpetrated these heinous acts – just blame the Devil? What on God’s green earth could possess (pun intended) the Pope’s personal exorcist to suddenly come out of the proverbial darkness and proclaim this dark-ages interpretation to the ills of the Roman Catholic community?

Did I mention he’s on a book tour?

Amorth’s outspoken campaign to exorcise the Devil from the Vatican coincides quite neatly with the launch of his new book, Memoirs Of An Exorcist, which is comprised of collection of interviews done by Italian journalist Marco Tosatti. Hopefully Father Gabriele does not bump into J.K. Rowling at Barnes and Noble.
