Today’s Joe Fosco Show has me reminiscing about the famous line by Al Pacino in Godfather III, “Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in.”

My steady viewers know that I have been staying clear of mafia-related material as of recent. However, when the opportunity to interview a well-known expert like John Binder came along, I could not resist.

One of Mr. Binder’s many historical endeavors includes a great tour program focusing on the biographies and the homes of several infamous late top hoodlums of the Chicagoland area. I recently went on one of Mr. Binder’s gangster tours. While preparing for the tour experience I was not sure what to expect. I could not help wondering if Mr. Binder’s tour was going to be one of those theatrical numbers where actors are dressed in pinstripe suits, while armed with toy guns. Instead, I found the tour to be an educational experience. Even a serious historian would appreciate Mr. Binder’s tour, as questions, answers and group discussions are a big part of his program.

The tour is called There Goes The Neighbor Hood. To learn more you can visit the tour’s Facebook page.

Don’t stop at the tour, though. Go online to find John Binder’s interesting book The Chicago Outfit. I found it to be very informative and an overall great read.

In the video interview you will witness conversation about the alleged current closeness between the Elmwood Park, Illinois, Police Department and the Chicago Mafia.

See you soon!

  1. Good interview. BTW, Toni Giancana was born in 1935, so is 80 years old on June 23rd.

  2. Mr. Binder interesting to hear your thoughts on narcotics dealing during the prohibition era. I was always under the impression that the Cleveland meeting, the one that took place at the Statler Hotel in 1928, that one of the reasons for that gathering had to do with the smuggling between the sicilian mafia that was in the U.S. and their counterpart overseas. Did yoyu ever hear anything about that?
