And They’re Off!

Danny Davis
The supposed ‘consensus’ candidate in the African-American community, Danny Davis is no newcomer to politics on either a city-wide or federal level. Since 1997 he has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois’s 7th district. Before that he was an alderman from the 29th ward. He has served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners and even challenged King Daley II for the throne in 1991.

He has also crowned wacko cult leader Sun Myung Moon in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, taken terrorist-sponsored political trips to other countries and recently accused two Chicago police officers of giving him a ticket because he is black.

Oh yes, and he is also sponsored by the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America. So… Yeah…

Sad thing is he is probably the only serious contender against Emmanuel. Or he would be if Braun drops out along with…

James T. Meeks
The wonderfully un-electable Reverend Meeks made all sorts of headlines weeks ago when he vowed he would never give up running his mega-church (Salem Baptist Church), claiming he could be both mayor and pastor at the same time.

Well, that didn’t go over too well. Ultimately he had to back pedal a bit on that one.

But the one thing he can’t really back pedal on is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s inclusion of his name on their list of the 10 leading black religious voices in the anti-gay movement. Meeks, like many fundamentalist African-American preachers in the United States, seems to waste an inordinate amount of time preaching against the evils of homosexuality. Chicago, which has one of the largest LGBT populations in the United States, probably won’t want to elect a man who’s entire election strategy for his seat in the Illinois Senate was to ‘defend’ the sanctity of marriage.
