The Struggle For Tyranny

Still though, Russia should be branded for what it really represents and step should be taken to diminish their power at the UN, or remove them from their undeserved position entirely.

What is certain is that any decisive action against Syria must also be a repudiation of Russia and the Arab League’s willful resistance to freedom and democracy. Another few years of liquidating the free press in his own country and Putin will be in a good position to begin openly annihilating those who oppose his resurrection of Imperial Russia. The continued existence of so many blatant dictatorships in the Middle East, constituting a state of affairs clearly outrageous to the Arab people, threatens more mass-killings like the ones currently occurring under Assad. The United States and their NATO allies must remain a bulwark of democratic freedom, despite (or in spite of) these malevolent forces bent on repression.

This struggle in Syria is not just a battle for the leadership of one small country – it has become a proxy for the struggle of people to determine their own political future. Attaining such freedom can be dangerous, as it can lead to a new kind of political bondage (shades of Iran), but in the end it is the only system that can bring forth positive results. The worst thing that can happen is the erection of a new dictatorship, but, as history has taught us, such institutions are ultimately doomed to fail.
