Rick Perry, the Republican Party’s answer to Smilin’ Joe Biden, bit out another insanely public gaffe a few days ago. In a rush of stupidity that only a few people with Presidential hopes would dare embrace, The Governor of Texas compared homosexuality to alcoholism, alleging that both “particular lifestyles” had their roots in genetic dispositions, and that both conditions should be fought with equal vigor.

Maybe Rick should fight his tendency to speak in public with the same vigor, or perhaps the Texas legislature should pass an amendment to the Texas state Constitution banning Rick Perry from inserting his foot into his mouth. Of course, the Texas legislature would hate to regulate where a consenting adult may place his or her foot. That’d be downright un-American (according to the Supreme Court, anyway).

Bobby Jindal

Governor Jindal wonders what ridiculous Fundamentalist crusade he should take up next.

The Governor of Louisiana took time out of his busy schedule forcing creationism into public schools and closing abortion clinics to give the Robertsons, owners of the Duck Commander company (made famous by the TV show Duck Dynasty), the Governor’s Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

I have to assume a loose interpretation of the word Excellence in this case; one that includes a subtle (or overt?) gubernatorial endorsement of the screaming racism and open hatred of homosexuals often espoused by the colorfully atavistic family patriarch Phil (if you are unfamiliar with Phil, his hate-filled religious screeds have become famous on the Internet).

One would think that Governor Jindal, a non-Angelo Saxon born to immigrants from a country that was once enslaved by the British Empire, might object to hearing that dark skinned people were happier when under their master’s whip. I guess publicity trumps everything.
